You mentioned that you want to grow with your sewing machine and take on complex sewing projects in the future, so I decided that this is the perfect sewing machine for your sewing needs.

However, before you make a final decision, please check out my latest reviews on sewing machines for beginners and explore your options. There are other entry-level units worth considering.

Hopefully, my suggestions can help you make a smart choice.

Have a wonderful day and stay safe.

  2. I have a Singer 6235 that is 35 years old. I need to buy another machine but overwhelmed by everything out there. I read all your reviews and still overwhelmed. I would like a machine comparable to the one I have. It needs to sew thru light weight fabric, knits and denim. I also don’t know if I need to go computerized either. Confused! Any advise you can give me will be greatly appreciated

    1. Dear Helen,

      Thank you for comment.

Computerized sewing machines are easier to learn and use! The Singer 6235 is a great sewing machine.

SINGER Quantum Stylist 9985 Computerized Sewing Machine is somewhat similar to this model. It’s an advanced, computerized sewing machine with a drop-in bobbin system.

It’s easy to set up and simple to use. You can use this machine for both regular and stretchy fabrics. The intuitive LED screen makes it easy to choose the right setting. The best part?

It’s loaded with 900 stitches including 13 buttonholes. If you’re looking for a sturdy sewing machine like your 6235, look no further than this model. It has a heavy-duty metal frame.

The Singer 4432 would also make a good replacement. It’s made with serious and advanced sewers like yourself in mind. It’s a heavy-duty, sturdy, durable, and mechanical sewing machine.

It’s loaded with 32 built-in stitches, a powerful motor that can sew up to 1,100 stitches per minute, and other interesting features that you will find useful. It’s also budget-friendly.

Hopefully, my suggestions can help you make a wise choice.

Have a wonderful day and stay safe.

      Love, Mary/

  3. Which Singer model would be closest to the Golden Touch & Sew II? I have this machine now. It’s been a good machine but have a few problems with it now. Would like to find a decent repair shop to fix it, but am interested in what might be it’s best replacement (features & sturdy build) in case repairs outweigh the cost of a new machine.

    1. Dear Char,

      Thank you for your comment.

I’m sorry that you experienced issues with your Golden Touch & Sew II. It’s one of Singer’s best models. The Singer 4423 sewing machine is somewhat similar to this model. It’s strongly built.

And comes with 23 built-in stitches. It’s suitable for both basic and heavy-duty sewing projects. This unit has a super powerful motor. It can sew up to 1,100 stitches per minute. The best part?

It’s affordable. If the repairs for your Golden Touch & Sew II pass $350, I suggest that you buy a new unit instead. Not only you will have a new sewing buddy but also forget about the issues.

If you’re searching for something cheaper, SINGER Simple 3232 Sewing Machine is a perfect choice. It’s a user-friendly, feature-rich and affordable sewing machine.

It comes with 32 built-in sewing stitches, 1-step buttonhole, built-in needle threader, automatic reverse button, high presser foot lifter and can sew up to 750 stitches per minute.

Hopefully, my suggestions can help you make a smart decision.

Have a nice day and stay safe.

      Love, Mary.

  4. Julie Mattocks-Cawood

I’m looking to buy a Singer 3709 second hand. I cannot find any reviews on this machine. Can you help? What year was this model manufactured? Thank you in anticipation for any help at all

    1. Dear Julie,

Thank you for your comment and for trusting my opinion.

All I could find was this database which includes every Singer unit ever made. Look up the serial number of the machine you want to buy and find out when it was released.

I found these few reviews on the machine. There’s almost nothing on this sewing machine online except for this user manual. Hopefully, my answer can help you somehow.

Have a wonderful day and stay safe.

      Love, Mary.

  5. I am looking at getting in small project sewing. Do you know if the singer Start 1304 will sew 2 bath towels together?

    1. Dear Loy,

      Thank you for your comment.

Unfortunately, this is a very nice and basic machine. I don’t think it would be a good choice for 2 fabrics at the same time. If they’re thinner, it might perform the task.

Please, read my heavy-duty sewing machine reviews and pick one for your needs if you plan to use thick materials in the future. Hopefully, you will find my reply helpful.

Have a wonderful day and stay safe.

      Love, Mary.

  6. I’ve been reading reviews like crazy. Thanks for so much work here. Many of the links show “unavailable,” but at least readers get the model numbers. I’ve had the Singer “Heavy Duty”?????? 4423 for about 10 years. All the “Heavy Duty” models use the same ‘machine’. It had/has excellent reviews, but the one con: “jams on thick material” throws all of those Singer Heavy Duty models out of the game for me. Three layers of unbleached muslin is too thick no matter what needle/thread I use. I spend three times as long trying to get it working than the entire project would take. I want a simple machine that works! I don’t use it often–3 or 4 times a year. I keep it clean and lightly oiled, but EVERY TIME I have a project, I can’t finish it because of the jamming. Did I get a dud? Maybe. I’ve read every “tip” on the web. Nothing really works. Thousands have gotten a great machine. Just be aware that unless you are a demon seamstress/tailor, you may never come across these issues until past the 90 day warranty.

    1. Dear Rhea,

      Thank you for your comment.

I’m so sad that you’ve had this horrible experience with 4423. It’s a heavy-duty sewing machine and one that worked well for many other sewers.

However, you probably received a bad product. Please, check out these heavy-duty sewing machines on my page. Also, if you’re not in a hurry, wait until all the fuss goes away because many sewing units aren’t available for purchase.

Most of the heavy-duty sewing machines in the guide I suggested can still be purchased. They’re in stock and ready to ship so make sure to check them out!

Hopefully, my answer can help you somehow.

Have a wonderful day and stay safe.

      Love, Mary.

  7. Hi, thank you for a great review and list! Do you have any opinion of promise 1408 and start 1306 for hobbyist and beginner? I still stuck between those two and could not decide. I will use it for my children and quilting as well.

    1. Dear Izzah,

Thank you for your comment and kind words.

I would choose 1306 because it’s a beginner-friendly sewing machine with all the whistles and belts. It’s perfect for basic projects and comes with free accessories.

1408 is also good. However, a few consumers complained about thread issues. Also, they didn’t get the promised CD with instructions on how to operate the machine.

Both machines have similar features and performance but the Singer 1306 is slightly better and loaded with more features. Hopefully, my answer can help you choose right.

      Have a wonderful day.

      Love, Mary.
