Which Singer model would be closest to the Golden Touch & Sew II? I have this machine now. It’s been a good machine but have a few problems with it now. Would like to find a decent repair shop to fix it, but am interested in what might be it’s best replacement (features & sturdy build) in case repairs outweigh the cost of a new machine.

All I could find was this database which includes every Singer unit ever made. Look up the serial number of the machine you want to buy and find out when it was released.

Unfortunately, this is a very nice and basic machine. I don’t think it would be a good choice for 2 fabrics at the same time. If they’re thinner, it might perform the task.

I’ve been reading reviews like crazy. Thanks for so much work here. Many of the links show “unavailable,” but at least readers get the model numbers. I’ve had the Singer “Heavy Duty”?????? 4423 for about 10 years. All the “Heavy Duty” models use the same ‘machine’. It had/has excellent reviews, but the one con: “jams on thick material” throws all of those Singer Heavy Duty models out of the game for me. Three layers of unbleached muslin is too thick no matter what needle/thread I use. I spend three times as long trying to get it working than the entire project would take. I want a simple machine that works! I don’t use it often–3 or 4 times a year. I keep it clean and lightly oiled, but EVERY TIME I have a project, I can’t finish it because of the jamming. Did I get a dud? Maybe. I’ve read every “tip” on the web. Nothing really works. Thousands have gotten a great machine. Just be aware that unless you are a demon seamstress/tailor, you may never come across these issues until past the 90 day warranty.

However, you probably received a bad product. Please, check out these heavy-duty sewing machines on my page. Also, if you’re not in a hurry, wait until all the fuss goes away because many sewing units aren’t available for purchase.

Hi, thank you for a great review and list! Do you have any opinion of promise 1408 and start 1306 for hobbyist and beginner? I still stuck between those two and could not decide. I will use it for my children and quilting as well.

I would choose 1306 because it’s a beginner-friendly sewing machine with all the whistles and belts. It’s perfect for basic projects and comes with free accessories.
1408 is also good. However, a few consumers complained about thread issues. Also, they didn’t get the promised CD with instructions on how to operate the machine.
Both machines have similar features and performance but the Singer 1306 is slightly better and loaded with more features. Hopefully, my answer can help you choose right.
