My Full, Unbiased Singer 9985 Review

The promise of 960 built-in stitches seems great, but it got me thinking – how much of those stitches will be useful? How many of them will I ever use?

Well, I’m glad to report that I used almost all of them at least once and they all seemed to perform well. All the basics are covered, and most of the decorative stitches are different enough from each other, though there are definitely some that seem too similar.

The automatic buttonholes, on the other hand, are all wildly different and incredibly useful, as are the stretch stitches.

The alphabets for monogramming are also amazingly useful, and I’m glad that a Cyrillic option was included too.

All of the options are usually easy to find on the touchscreen, though you do have to scroll through a lot of screens to get to some of the things you want.

The included options for changing the stitch length and mirroring them are also useful and allow you to get a lot more use out of certain stitches.

However, the thing that helped me the most were the sewing feet – they allowed me to do things I didn’t think were possible.

I also liked that the machine suggested specific sewing feet for certain stitches where I thought I didn’t have to change them.

The machine is not just made for delicate, specialized sewing though – it’s definitely a heavy-duty sewing machine, and it has a lot of power. The speed is great, too – 850 stitches per minute.

There’s no skipping at all due to the sturdy metal frame, and the construction overall is great, and the machine is sure to last for years.

It does make a lot of noise while working and it will vibrate a lot and ‘walk’ if you don’t stabilize it well.

Besides that, it’s rather easy to use, and all of the little quality-of-life features are definitely appreciated and work well.

The 2 LED lights for lighting up the work area eliminate all shadows while the automatic reverse lever allows you to easily reinforce stitches. You can also automatically wind the bobbin and choose from 25 different needle positions.

The only thing that doesn’t work quite as intended is the needle threader – and yes, I followed the instructions carefully.

Overall, I’d say this is an amazing machine in almost every regard, and it’s tailor-made for professionals looking for a reliable and versatile workhorse that will last for years to come.

Well, I’d say that this machine, while expensive, justifies its value twice over. It just has so many useful features, and it’s incredibly versatile. It seems like there’s almost nothing this machine can’t do.

The number of built-in stitches is huge, and if that isn’t enough, the number of modifications you can apply to them is ridiculous.

It’s a good, durable, strong machine that can do pretty much everything you can imagine and it’s a great choice for pros looking for a machine that they’ll use for years to come. It’s one of the best sewing machines out there.
