Black Friday: The Biggest Shopping Event Since The 1950s
You probably didn’t know this, but the shopping event we all know as Black Friday dates much earlier than one might think.
How much earlier, you ask?
The phenomenon of holiday shopping season starting the day after Thanksgiving was first observed among retailers back in the 1950s!
That’s pretty much how Black Friday came to be:
People often spent the day after Thanksgiving getting an early start on their Christmas shopping – and the rest is history.
This year, Black Friday will officially take place on November 29, the day after Thanksgiving.
However, ever since 2013, there’s a growing trend among retailers to offer pre-Black-Friday deals, as well. So, while Black Friday officially lands on November 29, you shouldn’t be surprised to see sales and discounts throughout the entire Black Friday week.
For instance, Amazon’s known for its week-long Black Friday sales – but more on that later.
And you know what comes after Black Friday?
That’s right – Cyber Monday, the online equivalent of Black Friday sales!
One was born in brick-and-mortar stores, and the other came to be as the online world’s answer.
Much “younger” than America’s biggest shopping holiday, the first Monday following Thanksgiving – known as Cyber Monday – got its name in 2005.
Ever since then, it’s been steadily growing in popularity, with more and more retailers deciding to jump on the Cyber Monday bandwagon each year.
This year, this massive online-only shopping event will take place on December 2. A lot of the Black Friday yarn deals you’ll see today will be available on Cyber Monday, too – be sure not to miss them!

Let’s get one thing straight first:
I highly recommend doing your Black Friday shopping online whenever that’s an option.
Sure, some deals are only available in-store. However, as long as you plan everything carefully and know what you want, you’ll be able to snatch mind-blowing discounts online, too.
There are two main reasons why I’m all for online Black Friday shopping:
- Online Stores Never Close – Unlike brick-and-mortar stores, online stores don’t have opening and closing times. That means that you can snag a bargain at any time of day, rather than being restricted by working hours. Plus, discounts often go live at the stroke of midnight – and if you stay up late, you might be the first one to get them!
- Shop From The Comfort Of Your Home – Have you ever been in a store during Black Friday sales? Things can get pretty crazy – and not to mention, crowded – in there! However, if you decide to shop online, you can do so without having to navigate crowded stores or wait in line at the register. It’s way more convenient, much faster – and often safer, as well.
Now that that’s out of the way let’s see where you’ll be able to find the best Black Friday yarn sale during the upcoming holiday shopping season!
Walmart’s Black Friday Yarn Sale
I know that Walmart probably seems like a better choice for landing in-store deals, but it does have a lot of online discounts, as well.
So, when the holiday shopping season rolls around, be sure to check the Arts Crafts & Sewing section of Walmart’s website, too!
However, pay attention to one crucial detail:
Some of Walmart’s deals only apply to in-store purchases, while others are online-only.
There’s a solution, though:

Finding the best Black Friday yarn sale this early is tricky. Much like any other type of crafting supplies, these deals are the last ones to be announced. The focus is almost always on appliances, machines, and the like, while accessories and supplies often get overlooked until the last moment.
