I am sort of a private eye for you, hunting for a machine that will suit all your needs at an affordable price.
Today I will take a look at Singer Brilliance 6180 through my microscope, and you will read my opinion along with some tips and tricks for its use.
The brilliance of this machine lies in its functionality, plenty of features and simplicity.
Singer, the leading top-quality sewing machines brand, operates since the 1850s and my first memories of a Singer machine are from the 1980s when my grandmother owned one. Back then, sewing was a rare craft, but I’m glad that nowadays it found its place into many households.
Manufactured by the Singer company, this machine does not fail to meet the expectations I have when I see “‘Singer”. Moreover, it is head-to-head to other sewing machines in their traditional product line that always ranks high.
Stay with me to find out how Singer Brilliance 6180 delivers high-quality performance and projects.
Singer Brilliance 6180: Reporting Test Results
Before I examine all the characteristics of this tool, here is the once-over of its main characteristics, for those of you who know what you’re looking for.

|Value for money||5/5|
However, these grades don’t mean much if you don’t read about all the features that contributed to this result. Keep scrolling to get a clear picture of what you will get with the purchase of this machine.
Singer Brilliance 6180 - Onstage Performance
I know this section is the reason for which many of you opened my article - seeing what the Singer Brilliance 6180 offers and how it performed.
Without any further delay, this is my honest opinion on the matter.
The visual side: Singer Brilliance 6180 under the Spotlight
As for the physical features of the Singer Brilliance 6180, its dimensions are 16.5 x 8 x 12.5 inches (42 x 20 x 32 cm), and it weighs around 17 pounds (7 kg), which classifies it under the light sewing machines.
It is not large either, and will take up less working space than an average machine.
Along with the handle, you will move this machine around with no difficulty, and you can easily bring it with you on any travel.
The heavy infrastructure of the metal frame guarantees durability and strength.
Even at high speed, this machine will be quiet and there will be a very low vibration.
Appearance-wise, this product does not differ significantly from other, modern Singer products.
Observe the official presentation from Singer here:
The typical sophisticated design by Singer characterizes this product, too. Decorated with their famous signature and the red “S” logo, Singer Brilliance 6180 comes in a grey and white variant.
Operating Buttons & Levers
Some of this machine’s features are accessed from the operating panel of the machine, and some from the LED Display Screen.
While here you will read how to access them, in the penultimate section you will get acquainted with their use.
At the front side of the machine, there are well-designed bobbin winding tension disk and the thread tension control dial, along with the thread cutter.
The front part that I like the most is the removable extension table that you can use as a storage compartment for all your accessories, or remove it in order to access the free-arm for more delicate projects.
The reverse stitch function is activated when you press the button on the right-hand side.
Speaking of buttons, a button that I am used to but is missing here is the “start/stop” button. You control this via the foot controller.
The handwheel and the buttonhole lever are very intuitive and user-friendly; using them was a piece of cake.
What distinguishes this machine from other models is the LED Display Screen. The light is bright enough so that you can clearly see everything needed to adjust the stitches.
For this purpose, there are convenient stitch selection and adjustment buttons beneath the screen.
The only flaw I found about this LED system is the interface of these buttons. Namely, if you accidentally pass a particular stitch, you need to go through the entire combination of numbers so that you come back to it. There is no back button.
See the process for yourself:
This wastes a bit of time, but this machine’s speed features and practicality make up for that.
Next to the LED Display buttons is the stitch design panel that is easy to use - the stitch representations are accurate, and it serves as a quick guideline.
Helpful Hacks that make the Use of Singer Brilliance 6180 Easier
This machine is very user-friendly, and I don’t think you will have any trouble operating it if you consult the official manual.
What is different from some sewing machines is the horizontal thread holder, so the threading track will also differ. Don’t let this scare you - the only difference is in the position, but the process will be the same.
Just make sure that you push the presser foot lifter up first, or the thread tension will be incorrect.
The crucial thing for your projects to turn out satisfactory is the right needle-thread-fabric combination.
Here is the chart you should use to obtain the combination correctly, and there will be no trouble.
As you can see, there are no heavyweight fabrics on the list of supported materials, such as upholstery linen fabrics.
Other than that, this machine works like a charm with the listed materials that I tested.
Best Features Brought to Light
As I have already mentioned before, the superpower of this machine lies in its functionality, an abundance of handy features and its sheer simplicity.
When it comes to those handy features, I got to mention 80 built-in stitches that extend from basic to stretch, and ultimately, decorative.
The stitches are preset, but the Singer Brilliance 6180 allows you to alter them by adjusting them to fit your preference.
I found adjusting the stitch length and width to be extremely easy, as it consists of simply pressing the up button if you prefer your stitch longer, or the down button if you’d like your stitch to be shorter.
Same goes for making it wider and narrower, by using the left and right buttons. A piece of cake, huh?

In this day and age, we appreciate our gadgets especially for their technological side and flair, and this machine is especially suited to the night owls or those who have trouble with their sight.
It is equipped with LED lights that make your sewing easy - no matter what the time on the clock is, you can be sure that the sewing area will be lit up.
The LCD screen was developed in the way so that it is not overly complicated as things tend to be when machines are computerized.
Let’s talk about buttonholes.
The machine offers six buttonhole styles, which means that you never have to do one and the same, repetitive buttonhole style ever again!
If you pay special attention to details as I do, this feature is definitely for you. Make sure that every little detail counts.
Here is a preview of this feature:
And of course, one of the best attributes of this machine is the built-in needle threader, especially if you wear contacts or glasses or simply do not want to strain your sight.
You can let this machine work its magic all by itself without having to roam over every little inch of your work carefully.
Your needle will automatically be adjusted to one of the 11 positions.
This is what it looks like:
Singer Brilliance 6180 comes with a great number of neat accessories that are quite costly if they are to be purchased separately, and this is certainly what strengthened my preference for the machine.
The classic General Purpose Foot is included in the standard package, and although it might seem like such a basic accessory, I wholeheartedly assure you that it is much better to have it than not to have it.
The Zipper Foot is another handy accessory and my preferred go-to when it comes to bulkier fabric, or if you prefer its traditional role, it will not let you down.
Since among my favorite features of this sewing machine is its half a dozen buttonhole styles, the Buttonhole Foot that is included is naturally quite handy.
When it comes to the rudimentary materials that everyone expects to see in the package, you will get the following along with the machine: a pack of needles, bobbins, a thread spool cap, an auxiliary spool pin (when it comes to twin needle sewing), and a spool pin felt.
The company even made sure that you don’t have to splurge unnecessarily on the maintenance and upkeep of the machine, so you will find your included darning plate quite handy and finally, a soft dust cover that will keep your machine neat when it’s not in use.
You will also get a seam ripper/lint brush and a screwdriver.
If you want to see the accessories, check out this video:
You simply have to agree that this outstanding number of accessories is not something that leaves you indifferent.
If they would be bought separately, you’d need to set aside a bigger sum to cover all of your needs.

Singer Brilliance 6180 provides an easy introduction into the world of sewing for beginners and offers them the opportunity of safe and secure progress.
No matter what your intentions are with this machine, you should know that it can keep up the pace that you dictate easily.
Although it seems lightweight for an electronic machine, it is sturdy and stable.
In addition, this machine packs a ferocious number of just over 750 stitches per minute. This might seem intimidating, but it offers beginners and professionals alike the same opportunity to produce high-quality work.
