Janome DC2014: Features You Should Know About

The Janome DC2014 is a feature-rich sewing machine.

So, here are a few essential features you should know about if you’re interested in this model:

Computerized Design with Button Controls

As a computerized sewing machine, the DC2014 is equipped with a backlit LCD screen paired with easy-to-use button controls, including Up/Down Needle Position, Auto-Lock and Reverse buttons, as well as the Speed Control slider, which lets you make all necessary adjustments with a push of a button.

50 Built-In Stitches

The Janome DC2014 comes with 50 built-in stitches, including three one-step sensor-type buttonholes, covering all the basics – and then some. The combination includes everything from utility, garment, and stretch stitches to quilting and applique ones. They’re all listed on the machine’s front panel, along with the recommended presser foot, and easy to switch between thanks to the stitch selector.

Superior Feed System (SFS)

Another feature worth mentioning is the Superior Feed System (SFS). To the untrained eye, it might not make that much of a difference, but the SFS is a big deal, as it results in high-quality stitching, eliminates the chance of loose stitches, and ensures that all fabrics, even thick or multi-layer ones, move under the needle with equal ease and precision.

Built-In Automatic Needle Threader

To make needle threading faster and more convenient for the user, the DC2014 comes with a built-in automatic needle threader. That said, this feature only works for needles sized 11 to 16 – for other sizes, you’ll still have to do the threading manually.

7 Snap-On Presser Feet

The sewing machine comes equipped with seven specialty presser feet for added versatility – an automatic buttonhole foot, convertible even feed foot, ¼-inch seam foot, satin stitch foot, blind hem foot, over-edge foot, as well as a zipper foot.

Additional Features of Janome DC2014 Worth Noting

Janome DC2014 Review & My Experience with This Model

If you’re not familiar with the concept of the line of Janome sewing machines that the DC2014 model belongs to, the first thing you need to know is that they put out a new model each year, so that the model number matches the launch year, without making any drastic changes to the product itself.

Now, if you’re wondering why I’m talking about a 2014’s model in the year 2020, it’s because it stood the test of time thanks to its durable, convenient, feature-rich and overall high-quality design and features.

First of all, this is a computerized sewing machine, which means it not only has an LCD screen that lets you keep an eye on vital settings but features lots of convenient button controls, too.

Everything from needle positioning and locking stitches to reverse stitching and adjusting width and length is controlled either through the LCD screen or with a push of a button.

Speed is yet another element of this sewing machine that can be adjusted to your preferences quickly by using the speed control slider.

As you know, this model comes with 50 pre-programmed stitching options with an easy-to-use stitch selector.

While this is more than enough for everyone but the most experimental of sewers – and one can hardly complain about the lack of options – considering the price range we’re talking about here, I was left feeling a bit underwhelmed.

The stitching quality, on the other hand, is beyond amazing. No matter how many layers you’re working with or how thick the fabric is, there won’t be any skipped or loose stitches. I didn’t experience any issues with the jamming, either, which is always a plus.

Another feature I’m thankful for is the automatic needle threader. It saved me quite some time by removing manual threading out of the equation, although I was a bit disappointed to see that it only worked for a limited range of needle sizes.

I noticed that it stays quiet during the most difficult of tasks, which further makes it seem like everything’s a walk in the park for this heavy-duty sewing machine.

Besides the seven specialty presser feet, it came with quite a few handy accessories, too – nothing over-the-top, but more than enough to get you started.

Would I call this a beginner-friendly sewing machine, though?

Probably not – I feel like it’s better suited for intermediate to advance-level sewers, not because it’s too complicated to use, but because I feel like spending this much money doesn’t make much sense if you’re not committed to this craft:

If you’re only starting to explore it as a hobby, there are quite a few models by the same brand that might be better suited for you, like the Janome JW8100.

However, if you’re serious about giving sewing your best shot, the Janome DC2014 can be an excellent one-time investment for the future.

There’s a unique balance between a hands-on approach and automatic controls that this sewing machine offers, and I’m under the impression that this model’s capable of advancing alongside you – as your skill level improves, it allows you further explore and utilize its features in new and creative ways.
