Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200 QCP: Essential Features Overview

To merely say that the Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200 QCP is feature-rich would be an understatement.

Here, take a look at its features – you’ll see what I mean!

LCD Display with Control Panel

The large LCD screen featured on the Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200 QCP shows all the vital information – the stitch pattern itself, the mode and pattern number you’re working with, width and length, and recommended presser foot type. The control panel lets you enter pattern numbers, and offers the following functions, as well – Elongation, Memory, Mirror, Direct Pattern Selection, and Twin Needle.

170 Built-In Stitches

The Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200 QCP features a collection of 170 built-in stitches – everything you could ever need, and then some – including ten one-step buttonholes, as well as three alphabet stitches for monogram projects. The stitching patterns are organized in six modes and labeled with numbers for more accessible selection.

Detachable AcuFeed Flex System

The sewing machine comes with a detachable AcuFeed Flex system – an amped-up take on the regular walking foot’s even-feeding action, which results in superior, even feeding of fabric layers, top to bottom. The foot holders included here are the Single/Narrow and the Dual/Twin one, suitable for various applications – from quilting and sewing delicate fabrics to installing a zipper.

My In-Depth Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200 QCP Review

Since the model MC7700QCP has been deemed a huge success, Janome’s next step was to take the most notable, easy-to-use features of that model, add in even more, and combine them all into a new and improved sewing machine – and that’s how the Janome Memory Craft 8200 QCP Special Edition came to be!

Don’t let the LCD screen and the control panel intimidate you – it does have all these different button controls, but it’s far from being complicated to use. Even if you’re a complete sewing newbie, and have no clue where to start, the instructions manual is so detailed and well-written that there’s no way you won’t find your way around it.

You thought your current computerized sewing machine came with a lot of stitching options?

Well, considering that it features 170 built-in stitching patterns, I’m pretty sure that the Janome 8200 QCP blows it out of the water! Plus, it comes with 16 snap-on presser feet, which makes it easy to switch between them depending on your needs.

The stitch quality is impressive, too – they’re sturdy, well-defined, and professional-looking.

Besides being able to choose among so many stitches, you also get to adjust their length and width (with the maximum of 9 mm), save up to 50 pattern combinations, lock stitches, stretch them by up to five times, sew mirror images of selected patterns – and more!

Using it, I constantly kept discovering new features and endless ways to put them to work in different sewing projects. The freedom of creativity and versatility it offers are outstanding!

Speed is yet another thing this sewing machine excels at – at 1000 stitches per minute, it’s insanely fast, but since it has a speed control slider, it lets you adjust it to a level that’s comfortable to you. And while it does come with a foot controller, you can always use the Start/Stop button, instead – especially if you don’t have enough space for the former.

I know pretty much every sewing machine on the market these days features built-in lighting, but they rarely deliver on the promise of illuminating your sewing space. The Janome 8200 QCP, however, includes five LED lights positioned in a way that allows for superb, shadow-free lighting.

Thanks to the extra spacious, 11-inch arm and extension table, it offers more than enough workspace for even the largest of projects, and the addition of an adjustable knee lifter makes this an excellent sewing machine for quilting.

You’ll rarely find a single sewing machine that can perform several specialized sewing tasks as efficiently as this one. Most sewing machines are specially designed for particular areas, such as quilting or dressmaking – and while they can handle different projects, they don’t necessarily excel in them.

However, with the Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200 QCP, no matter what type of project you’re working on, it always feels like this model is made exclusively for that. And that level of adaptability is one of the most outstanding things about this sewing machine.

If there’s one thing to complain about – and I think we can all agree on that – it’s the price tag. It’s as far away from being budget-friendly as possible, but, in its defense, most other sewing machines of this caliber often cost several thousands of dollars. And given its professional-level performance, I wouldn’t say it’s overpriced, either:

It’s more than worth it – but it all comes down to how much you’re willing to invest.

Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200 QCP: Final Verdict

Due to its high price, I can’t flat-out tell you to buy the Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200 QCP sewing machine, because I know not all of you are ready to spend this kind of money on a sewing machine, no matter how outstanding it is.

Instead, I’ll advise you to take another good, hard look at my Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200 QCP review, go over its features and everything it has to offer to you as the user, and ask yourself:

Is it worth it for me?

And if you’re a professional quilter, seamstress, or dressmaker – or even a serious hobbyist – I’m pretty sure the answer will be “Yes.”

  1. I have the opportunity to purchase this a brand new, in the box, never used for $1,000.00. I currently own a 7700. If I buy the new machine, I will have to sell my 7700.

    Your thoughts?

  2. Hi Mary,

I have owned a Janome Memory Craft Horizon 8200 QCP Special Edition for several years and I love it. I want to thank your for your review. I learned several things about the machine/features while watching the various videos you included with your review. I must admit that I was hesitant when buying, but I have never regretted spending the money for this excellent machine. Again, thank you.

  3. Hi Mary,
Will this machine be sturdy enough to make handbags and totes? Canvas, decor-weight fabric with interfacing, etc? Can it handle thicker threads? Topstitching thread? Tha ks,
