The Explore One regrettably lacks the ability to function wirelessly. Luckily, you can purchase the Bluetooth adapter separately and secure Bluetooth functionality to transfer images wirelessly, if you don’t mind the additional cost.

Also, it only comes with one head clamp. So, if you want to be able to cut and use the pen or score tool simultaneously, you’ll need to invest in an adapter.

And now, I’d like to talk a bit more about all the great things Explore Air has to offer.

Versatility & Capability

The Cricut Explore Air has one carriage more than its predecessor Explore One. The Double tool holder enables the Explore Air to cut and write simultaneously, saving your precious time and efforts. You won’t have to buy any additional tool adapters for it, which will save you some money as well.

Also, the Explore Air keeps you unrestricted when it comes to the choice of material. The simple dial enables you to choose the material and eliminates the guesswork when setting the blade depth,

which is especially helpful for newbies.

Half settings and custom settings are also there for the more advanced users that want to get exactly what they have envisioned for their project. Cricut Explore Air cuts paper, fabric, vinyl, poster board, vellum, leather, and almost sixty more different materials.

Another thing that the Explore Air lacks is a knife blade, a tool that’s essential when it comes to cutting and trimming thicker materials.

The final member of the Cricut Explore family I am going to review in detail is the Cricut Explore Air 2. You know the old saying last but not the least – well, in this case, it is true. Explore Air 2 might be the last on today’s Cricut Explore review list, but it is the best of all the three reviewed machines.

It can do everything Explore One and Explore Air can, only faster and better – and it looks better doing it, too.

Yes, I’m talking about design. I agree that looks don’t matter much when it comes to appliances, but the Explore Air 2 surprised me with the variety of available colors in pastel hues. You can choose anything you like, and match this DIY machine with your home or office décor, and other appliances you already own.

Did I forget to mention that it does everything two times faster than its predecessors, too? The double tool holder already speeds up the process of completing your projects that require more than one operation, but the Fast Mode takes things to the next level.

This handy feature that the Explore Air 2 offers can be a real savior for all of you who work with set deadlines. I think we could all appreciate that extra free time in the hasty world we live in.

Oh, and it goes without saying – all the good stuff is still there! By that, I mean that dual carriage functionality, German Carbide Blade, Bluetooth connectivity, and practical auto-settings are all present in this newest model as well.

Versatility & Capability

The extra speed is helpful, but Air 2 has so much more to offer.

For example, it can cut through more than 100 different materials including tissue paper, cotton, silk, foam, leather, corkboard, clay, foil, aluminum, burlap, and even chipboard and birch wood as well.

Of course, this model also features Smart Dial to help you manage different materials in the best possible way, why would they change something good?

Cutting Width & Force

Much like the previous two, the Cricut Explore Air 2 offers you a cutting width of 11.5 by 23.5 inches. Although that’s nowhere near the largest cutting width available on the market right now, it’s still one of the best deals among desktop machines of this type.

The force behind it – and your main ally in completing your projects with speed and precision – is the premium, German carbide, fine-point blade.

What about Software?

Cricut Explore Air 2 stays true to the Design Space software which, thanks to the 2.7.1 update for the Design Space iOS app, is now cloud-based! This means that you can work offline too.

The functionality and simplicity are on the same (high) level as with the two previous models.

Cricut Explore Air 2 comes with three months of free membership subscription to Cricut’s premium features.

After the trial expires, you have the option to continue paying for it, or you can lose the premium features but still use the thousands of pre-made designs we have mentioned before too. If that does not boost your creativity and take it to the unknown heights, nothing will!

What’s Missing?

Compared to its older brothers, the Explore Air 2 certainly brings a lot more to the table – but it’s not without its issues. My chief complaint – and I’m sure a lot of other users will agree with me – is the noise level.

I’m willing to give it a pass, though, considering that it’s capable of doing the job twice as fast.

What is my opinion?

If you are a newbie that has never used a cutting machine before, I highly recommend that you start with the basics and that means going for the Explore One. You can upgrade later on once you have mastered the fundamentals by buying the additional carriage, Bluetooth adapter or the new, more advanced machine.

If you’re a more experienced crafter or a hobbyist who prefers to work on your smartphone or tablet, opt for the machine that offers you the freedom of wireless connectivity – the Cricut Explore Air.

The Cricut Explore Air 2 offers the most, at the highest price, of course. I recommend this machine to users who want to be able to work fast when needed without compromising on the quality of their projects.
