An Embroidery Machine Which Can Do Anything You Want
While Brother has been a well-known name in the sewing industry for years and years, they’ve always been known for making more affordable machines that still deliver on a lot of quality.
Well, this dedicated embroidery machine of theirs is a bit pricier than the typical Brother sewing machine, but it is one of their best yet – you might have heard something about, and I know I sure have, long before I tried it.
Want to know what all the hype is about?
Well, today I will do a comprehensive Brother PE770 review – take a look at it and find out all you need to know about this great piece of tech.
The Brother PE770 Embroidery Machine at a Glance
Here are some of the basics specs of the Brother PE770 machine, organized into an easily readable chart.
For more details about the machine, keep on reading! You’ll find out all you need to know about its most important features and my opinions on it.
The Standout Features of The Brother PE770 Embroidery Machine
While most machines have a lot of different features not all of them are useful, and only a few stand out as really important.
Unlike sewing machines, embroidery machines require a slightly different set of features, more precision, and more customizability in order to be useful.
Here are some of the most important features that the Brother PE770 can offer to you.
5-by-7-inch Work Area
With a larger-than-average work area, this machine is able to offer you more than enough space for maneuvering and making some larger designs. The larger amount of horizontal space is great for lettering.
136 Built-in Designs
This machine comes with 136 built-in designs which is more than most other Brother machines that have an embroidery function. It also comes with 6 lettering fonts, 10 frame shapes and 12 border styles which you can mix and match.
Computer Connectivity
One of the best parts about having a computerized sewing or embroidery machine is the ability to import your own designs, which you can also do here using a USB cable. The machine is able to use any files with a .pes or .dst extension.
2.7-by-1.4-inch Black and White LCD Touchscreen
This touch screen allows you to edit the design you upload to your liking, and it also allows this machine to have a wide variety of options without being overloaded with buttons. It’s fairly easy to use as well.
My Custom Stitch
What this feature allows you to do is to make your own stitching patterns through a few steps described in the manual. It gives this machine almost unlimited versatility. However, it can be a bit difficult to use, but you should get the hang of it after a while.
Other Features of the PE770
Besides those features, the PE770 offers a few others as well:
- Speed of 650spm
- 6 lettering fonts
- 10 frame shapes
- 12 border styles
- Embroidery arm
- Built-in memory
- 25-year limited warranty
- Automatic needle threader
- Auto thread trimmer
- Quick-set bobbin
- Dust cover
- Accessory bag with scissors, seam ripper, cleaning brush, needle set, 2 screwdrivers, 3 spool caps, and 3 bobbins
My Honest Brother PE770 Review
For starters, I really liked the larger work area that this machine provides and the 7-inch width is especially great since it gives you more than enough room for lettering projects.
You don’t get any independent lighting but that’s not always necessary, and the machine is made in a such a way that it won’t cast a shadow on it. You should use a small LED work lamp if you need extra lighting though – I know I do.
The vast amount of in-built designs is definitely appreciated. Most of the designs are quite good, and all are great for beginners, but pros can get a lot out of them too. You can also access the store where you can buy even more designs.
You also get a lot of other in-built elements, like the 6 different lettering fonts, 10 different frame shapes and 12 border styles. These are all useful for creating your own, more original designs.
Of course, the fact that it’s a computerized machine with a USB port means that you can do a lot more than just that – you can upload your own designs! You can even save them in the limited memory and edit them a bit.
Sadly, you can only upload them one at a time, and you can’t overlay them over each other. It can also be a bit difficult to edit them properly on the relatively small touch screen that shows only black and white.
It can also be difficult to get to the options you want on the touch screen since they can be hidden behind multiple menus. Scrolling through 10 screens to get to what you need every time is arduous, and I wish there was some kind of shortcut system.
Another great feature included in this machine is the My Custom Stitch feature included in a lot of recent Brother machines. Basically, it allows you to create your own, unique stitch pattern, which is great.
However, it does have a steep learning curve and learning how to use it can be a bit difficult, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to do some great work with it.
The quick-set bobbin feature combined with the auto-threading and the automatic thread trimmer allows you to skip a lot of unnecessary busy work and get straight to embroidering.
However, they don’t always work perfectly, and your thread will get tangled from time to time. It’s relatively easy to solve if it happens on the outside, but if it happens on the inside, it can be a pain to deal with.
The durability of the machine is great, and I can confidently say that it will be able to last for years to come. You are covered by a 25-year warranty anyway, which is good in case something unexpected happens to the machine.
Despite that, the machine is relatively small and lightweight, allowing you to move it around with ease and maybe even take it with you somewhere, though it doesn’t come with a carry case.
For what you get here the price is more than good, even though it is a bit higher than some of the other machines made by Brother. It’s a great machine for both beginners and those who already have a business of their own.
