The best part? It’s packed with advanced features but still affordable. This baby provides a lot more than other similar models on the market.
If this doesn’t sound like music to your ears, I don’t know what will. Let’s take a closer look at the main features of this popular machine.
Thanks to the 12-inch workspace to the right of the needle, you can complete large sewing projects with ease. The Babylock Jazz allows you to explore your creativity.
1,000 Stitches Per Minute
Keep a steady and fast pace of up to 1,000 stitches per minute. The good part about this machine is that it’s not only fast but also accurate and delivers flawless results.
Hands-Free Presser Foot
Mind both hands-frees for stitching big quilts. Jazz allows you to begin and terminate your work without ever taking your hands or eyes off your project.
I always mention that I’m a huge fan of good lighting. I would never recommend a machine with bad or no lighting. The Jazz model comes with 30 built-in LEDs.
They illuminate your workspace and needle nicely so you can see every single stitch and avoid mistakes. I simply love the lighting of this Babylock machine.
Quick-Set, Top-Loading Bobbin
If you’re a beginner, you will find this feature very pleasing.
The top-loading quick set cuts the struggles with bobbin changes in the middle of a project. Just drop a new bobbin, pull your thread via the guide and let your Jazz do the rest.
A Built-In Needle Threader
The built-in needle threader is one of my favorite features. It allows users to flawlessly thread their unit every time so they can get up and running fast.
Stitch Length and Width Dials
I also like is the stitch length and width dials. With the visual guide, you can quickly dial in stitch length and width adjustments.
Automatic Bobbin Winder
The built-in bobbin winder seat keeps your thread in place and then stops when the bobbin is complete automatically. It couldn’t be simpler.
Snap-on Presser Feet
The Babylock Jazz allows you to change from one specialized accessory foot to another in a snap. This is very convenient for beginners and younger sewers.
The free arm on your Babylock allows you to stitch enclosed pieces, curved items, and other tight spaces just as simply as large projects.
28 Built-in Stitches
This unit comes with 28 built-in stitches, a 1-step buttonhole, and a maximum stitch width is 7mm. This shows you that Jazz is well-equipped for different sewing projects.
Stitch Indicator Window
Another feature that I like is the stitch indicator window. You can choose from 28 different patterns and view your chosen pattern in the stitch indicator window.
You may think the Babylock Jazz is just another sewing and quilting machine but it’s not. This baby sings a whole different song than other machines out there.
It’s packed with features every quilter and sewer dreams of and comes at a great price. You can finish all your complex and basic projects with ease in record time.
This machine left a huge impression on me. I don’t say this because I’m a fan of Babylock and their work but because it’s true. It’s the best sewing machine for the price.
I especially like the large 12-inch workspace because it allows me to complete larger projects. I can also choose from 28 built-in stitches.
Do I have to mention that the built-in needle threader makes everything a lot easier? This max speed of this machine is 1,000 stitches per minute.
There is also a hands-free presser foot and a programmable needle up/down. However, let’s talk about my favorite features in detail.
12-inch Creative Space
I can make a larger quilt or work on a bulky project with ease thanks to the 12-inch workspace. This baby gives me plenty of space thanks to the expanded throat.
Programmable Needle Up/Down Button
I can decide to have my needle begin in the down or up position which eliminates interruptions. It also makes my job a lot easier and helps me finish everything faster.
Large Reverse Lever
Babylock invested time in increasing the size of a regular reverse lever, making it simpler to get my hand on it without taking my focus off my project which is amazing.
A Built-in Needle Threader
All it takes is a couple of moves, and your needle is threaded and good to go. This feature eliminates the guesswork, frustration, and near-misses which brings me joy.
Quick-Set, Top-Loading Bobbin
If you’re a beginner, you will enjoy the top-loading bobbin. I’m a professional crafter but still appreciate this feature. It cuts all the struggles with bobbin changes.
All you have to do is drop a bobbin, pull your thread via the guide and let your new sewing buddy do the rest. This makes the Babylock Jazz a perfect machine for beginners.
Automatic Bobbin Winder
The built-in bobbin winder set keeps your thread in spot and then stops automatically when the bobbin is full. I love automatic functions in sewing machines.
Hand-Free Presser Feet
This feature allows you to keep both hands on your project. It’s perfect for making large quilts. Start and stop your work without ever taking your hands or eyes off your project.
1,000 Stitches per Minute
Thanks to the speed of 1,000 stitches per minute, I complete my projects faster. The best part? I always get flawless results.
A Wide Selection of Stitches
The decent selection of stitches along with the 1-step buttonhole and the maximum stitch width of 7mm take my projects to new heights.
Witch a 12-inch workspace and high-speed motor, the Babylock Jazz provides a large, easy spot to finish quilt pieces. The metal construction makes it even more appealing.
This model is the ideal workhorse for a professional crafter but simple enough that even new sewers can master it. Let’s take some of the innovative features listed below.
A Large Working Space
As I already mentioned, this machine is ideal for bulky projects and large quilts thanks to the expanded throat space. It allows you to explore your creativity.
The Babylock Jazz makes the perfect choice for professionals with tons of projects to complete but it’s a great machine for beginners who focus on basic projects as well.
Programmable Needle Up/Down
I believe that this feature wasn’t available on some of the previous Babylock models which surprised and frustrated a lot of consumers.
However, this one has a programmable needle up/down which is great because it makes it easy to finish projects fast. It’s the ideal solution for applique.
Not Your Standard Reverse Lever
Babylock invested time in developing a larger reverse lever. It’s nothing like the standard reverse lever you see in other machines. It’s easily reachable which is great.
Easy Threading and Bobbin Winding
You will forget about the frustration, near-misses, and guesswork with the Babylock Jazz. It’s very easy to thread your needle without putting too much effort into the process.
The automatic bobbin winder, on the other hand, keeps your thread intact and then stops automatically when the bobbin is full. As you can notice, the automatic features save time.
Convenient Top-Loading Bobbin
One of the beginners’ favorite things about this machine is the quick-set, top-loading bobbin. If you’re a new sewer, you don’t have to worry about bobbin changing issues.
All you need to do is drop a new bobbin, pull the thread via the guide and let the Babylock Jazz complete the job. This convenient feature saves you time and frustration.
Keep Your Hands on Your Projects Only
Thanks to the hands-free presser foot, you can keep both hands on your project. Beginning and stopping your work can happen without taking your hands off your project.
High Motor Speed and Lots of Stitch Options
This workhorse can sew up to 1,000 stitches per minute which is decent for a household machine. Most sewing machines for home use can sew up to 850 stitches per minute.
Also, it comes with 28 inbuilt sewing patterns and a 1-step buttonhole which is great. Let’s not forget to mention the maximum stitch width of 7mm which is also important.
The visual guide helps users to quickly dial in stitch length and width adjustments.
6 Built-in LEDs
The lighting is very good thanks to the 6 built-in LEDs that illuminate the workspace and needle. You can see every single stitch and avoid mistakes.
Free Arm Sewing
With the free arm of this machine, you can sew curved items, enclosed pieces, and other tight spaces as well as larger sewing projects.
Also, the snap-on presser feet make switching from one specialized accessory foot to another a breeze, which is also important for beginners.
When removing the flatbed attachment, you will notice all the accessories stored inside. Pull the top of the flatbed attachment to crack open the accessory parts.
Good Sides of Babylock Jazz
I love Babylock embroidery machines and sergers. However, their sewing machines are also reliable and very nice. As you can notice, I’m a big Babylock fan.
They have the best sergers on the market thanks to the jet-air automatic threading and thread delivery. These features eliminate tensions all together.
But the main focus of these Babylock Jazz reviews is the Jazz machine. It’s a quilting and sewing machine that offers joyful and effortless sewing experience.
The effortless sewing experience is enabled by the 12-inch workspace to the right of the needle and the high motor speed. This baby can sew up to 1,000 SPM.
Also, it’s loaded with 28 built-in patterns which are great and include a 1-step buttonhole. However, the light is what impressed me the most because I love good lighting.
This baby is packed with 6 built-in LEDs that brighten up the workspace and needle. I also like the stretch stitch capabilities along with the thread tension dial.
The maximum stitch width is 7mm while the maximum stitch length goes from 0mm to 4mm. I love their hands-free presser feet. They allow me to keep my hands on my project at all times.
The dial indicator window is great but I especially like the needle plate with markings in millimeters and inches. Last but not least, I have to mention the heavy-duty metal construction.
Let’s summarize the convenience features that make this machine truly special.
- Free arm
- A built-in bobbin winder
- Twin needle sewing capabilities with a straight stitch
- Top-loading bobbin
- Convenient stitch width and length dials
- Large reverse sewing lever
- Power cord and an electronic foot control
- Accessory tray with 2 storage parts
- Color-coded stretch stitch options
- Easy-to-follow stitch reference chart
- Threading reference diagrams on the inside cover

Another good side of this machine is the included accessories.
You will get 9 snap-on feet, a knee lifter, a quilting guide, four bobbins, a vertical spool pin, a dust cover, a seam ripper with a brush, screwdrivers, and so on.
The optional accessories include a walking foot, a fabric guide, a Jazz Trolley, a table, a 28mm single fold bias binder, a 28mm double fold bias binder, and a 3/4-inch loop binder.
Finally, let’s talk about the warranty plan. You will get 1-year labor, 5-year electrical, 10-year parts, and a 25-year limited warranty on the machine’s head which is very appealing.
Bad Sides of Babylock Jazz
I recently bought the Babylock Jazz sewing machine and I love it.
It has multiple stitches and works very fast. However, it doesn’t have an automatic needle down feature. This is very important for machine quilting.
I find it simple for creating pillowcases, curtains, and other things that just require straight sewing. I’ve tried to do some quilting on it. However, it’s not good.
I don’t like it because I have to manually turn the needle town to keep it in place. This is fixed with the new Babylock Jazz II which I also bought and I’m beyond pleased with my purchase.
The first model is perfect for larger projects and comes with a lot of features but the lack of this feature is what made people frustrated and dissatisfied with their purchase.
If you’re going to buy a Babylock, I suggest that you buy the new Babylock Jazz II. It’s loaded with various features and has excellent performance just like the Babylock Jazz.
One thing I don’t like about this model is the loud buzzing sound of the pedal. I didn’t notice this flaw at the store. Maybe it’s just a bad batch but it’s not a deal-breaker.
I have also done my research on this machine to see what other consumers have to say about it. I found out that some people find the throat space insufficient.
They believe that there’s not enough height to the throat space which affects visibility while working. If you have any comments about this, please share it below.
Also, some consumers traded their Babylock Jazz for a computerized sewing machine because it doesn’t have an automatic up/down needle position.
However, as mentioned, this is all fixed with the Babylock Jazz II. Last but not least, Babylock Jazz is a bit heavy. It’s not a portable sewing machine.
How to Take Care of Your Babylock Jazz?
If you want your sewing unit to last, you have to take good care of it. Same goes for the Babylock. Firstly, you have to learn how to use it safely. Follow the following steps.
- Make sure you watch the needle carefully while you’re working. Avoid touching the thread take-up lever, handwheel, needle, and other moving parts.
- Turn off the main power and unplug the cord if you have stopped using your Babylock, if you’re replacing or removing the needle or any other part there is a power failure. While cleaning your sewing machine, turn off the power.
- Don’t store anything on the foot controller.
- Plug your machine straight into the wall and avoid using extension cords.
- Avoid storing your machine in high humidity conditions or direct sunlight.
- Don’t store or use your machine near a heater, halogen lamp, iron or other hot objects.
- Use only mild detergents or soaps to clean the case. Thinner, scouring powders, and benzene can damage the machine and case.
- Don’t hit or drop your sewing machine.
- Always check your manual before you attach or replace the needle, presser feet, and other parts to make sure you attach them properly.
- If your unit breaks down or requires adjustment, first check the troubleshooting table to inspect and adjust the unit yourself.
- If you don’t fix the problem, consult your local authorized Babylock seller.
How to Clean Your Babylock Jazz?
To ensure the perfect operation of your Babylock Jazz II, it’s necessary to keep the essential components sparkly clean at all times. Proper maintenance is the key to longevity.
Please, remember to disconnect your machine from the power supply before you do anything. Remove the plug from the electric outlet and get started with the cleaning process.
- Raise the needle to its highest state.
- Remove the bobbin cover and bobbin.
- Take off the needle plate and bobbin case.
- Clean the hook area with a lint brush.
- Use a drop of high-quality sewing machine oil on the hook race.
- Replace the bobbin case with the projection positioned against the spring.
- Replace the needle plate.
- Never use a scratched bobbin case. Otherwise, your upper thread can turn tangled, your needle can break or sewing operation can suffer.
- Make sure that you fit the bobbin case correctly. Otherwise, your needle can break and damage the machine or cause personal injury.
- Take your sewing machine to a local authorized Babylock retailer for regular maintenance. This will help to ensure you get uninterrupted hours of machine performance.
Babylock Jazz is the ideal solution for your quilting and sewing projects.
The high-end features like easy stitch selection, hands-free presser foot lifter, a built-in needle threader, and a bunch of common stitches make this machine popular among quilters.
Trust me, you will be working from noon until night with this unit. It’s that good. Hopefully, my Babylock Jazz reviews can help you determine if this is the right machine for you or not.
