I have a quick and easy project for you today. I LOVE earrings, they are probably my favorite form of jewelry. I've been lusting over all kinds of organizers, but they are all counter top stands and I don't have any counter space at the moment, so I made this.... (I used to have one of these using screen, but I think this is much prettier).
It goes well with my other hanging organizers (diy hair clip holder and the diy necklace/earring hanger)
Don't have enough earrings to organize? Well there's a giveaway at the end of this post that can help you out with that! (or any other jewelry item you might prefer). But first, a how to.
What you need-
Decorative sheet metal. The guy (had to stop myself from saying boy, because he was about the same age as me) at the home depot looked at me like I had three heads when I asked where the decorative punched metal for radiator covers was. Because that's what I'm used to seeing it made for. Finally we figured out that I was looking for "decorative sheet metal" so be specific, we'd hate for those poor boys to be confused. Or avoid the hassle and look for a man who looks like he belongs in a hardware store, he'll know what the heck your talking about.
Old frame (no glass or back needed so grab anything with a solid frame to it.
Spray paint (optional)
Sand paper (only if you opt for spray paint)
Is that everything? I got a bit distracted by my HD tangent. I do love Home Depot by the way. So nothing against the company. I'm just used to being in the store with my carpenter husband who can answer all my questions for me. This day I had my BFF and although she's great company for a glass of wine, not so handy in the hardware department.
On with it..... I chose to paint my frame. Actually I painted two, because a sheet of the metal made enough for two organizers and the BFF thought she needed one too.....
You could kinds see a sneak peek in the background there. I also painted my "decorative sheet metal". WORD OF CAUTION. If you are going to paint your metal (mine was actually a really pretty color to start with, but someone was requesting teal..... Make sure you lightly sand the face of the metal first!!!! Otherwise your paint will scratch right off. Use a nice grit stand paper and give it a once over.
Once everything is dry, use a pair of tin snips to cut the metal the size of your frame. Using the frame's tabs, secure in place.
The back sides weren't painted.... If your frame DOESN'T have tabs (and it's wood) you can use a stapler, just staple half way into the frame (don't push to hard).
Hang and fill.
As I mentioned, there is a giveaway starting today that you can get some fun new jewelry! Earrings Nation is offering one lucky winner a $25 shop credit! Just a few of my favorite things in her shop you could win....
Leave a comment below to enter, one per person please. Giveaway ends March 13th at midnight central time.
