Ruffle Fabric Pillow Tutorial

After making the ruffle table skirt, I had some long narrow scraps of ruffle fabric.  I then discovered the best thing about this fabric, you can piece it together between ruffles and the ruffles hide the seams! I combined two of my "scraps" to create a square which I used to make this.

Your square needs to be one inch larger than your pillow form (seam allowance). Cut a piece of coordinating cotton fabric the same size and grab a zipper slightly shorter than your squares.  Place your zipper together with one of your fabrics right side together with the zipper centered.  Run though your sewing machine then repeat with the other side of the zipper and the other fabric.  Now you have one large rectangle of fabric, zipper, fabric. 

Place your fabrics right sides together, make sure that your ruffles are all laying in the direction that you want them to fall (toward the zipper so that the zipper is at the bottom of the pillow made the most sense to me). Sew around the three open sides and finish sewing the side with the zipper.  Unzip the zipper a little bit first so that you are able to open it to turn the whole thing right side out.  Trim your extra seam allowance and turn right side out. 

I had to piece together the back fabric too, so this pillow was entirely made of scrap material. That's why you see that extra seam below.  So don't worry if you don't have that line on your pillow!

Between the ruffle skirt and the pillow I used an entire yard of the 2 inch ruffle fabric.  I have some tiny scraps left that I will find a use for! So don't throw any of it away.  I also have some of the smaller ruffle fabric that I have the cutest thing made out of, stay tuned!
