Shelf Re-Do Hand Embroidery

I love to embroider and knit this time of year.  Getting cozy on the couch with a project to keep my hands busy is very relaxing to me.  Last night I was looking for something quick yet rewarding to embroider.  This is what I came up with.
I loved it, but I didn't know what to do with it at first.  Until I looked up at my plain little shelf that I had been meaning to add a fabric backing to.
And together they made....
You can do this project whether you embroider of not, patterned fabric looks very cute on it's own!

What you need-
Fabric or embroidery piece on fabric
Box Shelf
Fabric Glue
White glue
Scissors

Apply fabric glue to the back edge of your shelf (skip over the hardware for hanging it). Lay fabric piece over back of shelf and press into glue.
Cut out around the hardware and glue any parts that may fray.  Glue fabric under hangers.
Allow glue to set a few minutes then trim excess fabric around edges.
My fabric was really prone to fraying and I wanted to make sure everything was extra secure so I took plain school white glue and ran a line around the edge (the same edge that you used your fabric glue on, but on top of the fabric this time). The white glue will seal the edges of the fabric and bleed through tot he shelf helping to secure any loose bits.  Allow to dry, hang!
I put the heart over the capital since we live just north of there, but you could put the heart over your home town! Happy Stitching.

Oooh. I really love this idea. It's so sweet and simple. And a perfect way to commemorate the state we've been living in since we got married, but will be moving away from next year. Thanks for the wonderful idea! I'm definitely going to be doing this. :)

Very cute! This is too funny, I have the exact little shelves, I got them at the Thrift store for $1 each and got 3. Two white and one light yellow and put burlap on the back of them, I like how you think!! =]

I absolutely LOVE this. I've been working on several projects featuring the states we've lived in and I'm adding this to my list.
