I'm so excited to share this project with you guys! When I first stared MJ&G I shared a dump truck piggy bank I came up with using a dollar store shadow box frame. I've come up with a more grown up version for you today!
This project was seriously difficult to photograph, but it's stunning in person I promise.
What you need-
Inexpensive shadow box frame (I picked up mine at the Dollar Tree)
Shelf lining paper (or something to act as a mask) I used clear shelf lining plastic
Frost spray paint
Double stick tape
Pretty paper (or fabric) size of photo frame is made for
Decide which words you would like on your bank. I used- change, save, bank, coins, fund. My frame is 4x6 so that's all I could fit.
Cut the words out of your shelf liner with an exacto knife or using a paper cutting machine if you have one. We are just using the actual letters as the mask portion. Apply the letter to the glass on the outside.
Tape off the front of the frame with painters tape. My frost paint covers in one coat. Read the directions on your brand. Once dry peal the letter masks off. Mine left some sticky behind so I used glass cleaner to get it off in the end.
This photo was before I cleaned the extra sticky off.
Cut a piece of pretty paper (or fabric) the size of the back of the frame. I used double stick tape to adhere my paper. A solid color will make the words easier to see, a patterned paper (like I used) will make it a somewhat hidden image from straight on, I thought that was kind of fun.
Once your paper is attached to the cardboard backing, use an exacto knife to cut a slit big enough for your change or dollars to fit through.
Put it back together and admire! Now make one for everyone on your holiday shopping list!
Enjoy!
