You can grab a button from my side bar if you'd like to play along!
So you would think I would start with a picture to show you my wedding dress in all it's glory (on my wedding day). That would be a great idea, except we have most of our stuff in storage and I was married before I had this computer so I've got nothing to show you except this gorgeous fabric from a shot of the skirt.
So far I'm loving what's coming out of the appliques shown here (which I'm using some of today). Maybe by the end of this month I'll have dug out a picture of the whole dress, come to think of it I'm sure my mom has one at her house I could scan! Anyway, here is my first "I DO" Re-done tutorial! (Don't worry, if you don't want to cut up your own dress you can always find one at the thrift store!)
I used the same simple basic headband tutorial I told you about here, you can find the tutorial here.
So this is the part from the dress. I cut a few before I decided what fit the best. Trim the fabric tight up around the applique and pin onto the headband you made from ribbon and a hair tie using the tutorial I mentioned above. It's super simple.
You can see where I pinned and ran my sewing machine to attach the ribbon to the hair tie. Then I pinned the applique onto the ribbon and sewed a few lines in a thread that matched my applique exactly! Then go back and wrap that ugly connection from rubber band to ribbon with some fabric glue and a piece of ribbon (more exact details in the tutorial for the basic headband). Your all set!
Enjoy!

That is gorgeous! I love the way it turned out, but I gotta tell you, my hands would be shaking like a leaf trying to cut up that beautiful material, let alone your dress! I can't wait to see whatelse you come up with. Theresa
ReplyDeleteOh my GOODness! I just love this. It's so pretty and a great way to remember your wedding day more often. :)

It turned out beautiful! You are gutsy to cut up your dress, I don't think I could do it. I know one lady, used hers to make both her daughters baptism gowns. I thought that was a fun idea. Anyways, I love the headband. Very very pretty!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty You are one brave girl!
ReplyDeleteI am LOVING that you are cutting up your wedding dress. I have been eying the beads on mine....but haven't had the nerve to go for it! Looking forward to your other projects!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I will have to check the thrift stores!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty - too bad I'm not married, cuz I want one!
ReplyDeleteI think it is great to remember your wedding more often! It' so much better than keeping that HUGE box for the next 50 years!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! It turned out beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCute! I need to try some of these headbands. I can't wear the typical ones - they always kill my ears. But I don't think these would.
ReplyDeleteStill don't know that I could do it to my dress though. I've had my thoughts on keeping it intact for my daughter. She can cut it up. :)
Aw, I want one! I love lace-type things!
ReplyDeleteI can see it now.... women all over the world cutting up their wedding dresses today, to make head bands. Husbands will wonder if their wives are mad at them. lol. I was just thinking the other day... why have I saved my dress? It takes way too much room, and my daughter will want her own. I think I just might craft todday with my dress!
ReplyDeleteWow! At first I thought oh no your wedding dress. But I have to say the results are fun and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCUTE! I've been wearing headbands again lately!
ReplyDeleteVery cute. My Mom made my wedding garter belt from a strip of her own wedding dress!
ReplyDeleteI told my husband you were doing this to your dress. He thinks you are a genius! He thinks it is ridiculous to store my dress. My mom, on the other hand, almost had a heart attack when I told her! Since she is the one that paid for the dress, I am on the fence on whether or not to take the plunge and cut mine up...
ReplyDeleteWas it hard to cut up your dress?
ReplyDeleteI still have mine, and can't decide to keep it, cut it, or sell it.
Oh my goodness, I dont know how you did it!
ReplyDeleteYou are a brave woman.
What a great idea! The headband is so cute!
ReplyDeleteThat is stunning! I can't believe you cut up your wedding dress! Crazy! BUT OH SO CUTE!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I cut up my wedding dress to make a christening gown that both my boys were baptized in. There's pieces left though and my husband and I are celebrating our 15th in August...this headband would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis makes more sense to me than having a dress sitting in a box or hanging in the back of a closet. I can imagine all kinds of lovely things from a gorgeous dress that can be enjoyed year after year.

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I bought a wedding gown at a thrift shop a few weeks just so I could cut it up!!! I loved all the lace and beads, and I could just imagine so many lovely sachets and covered hangers from all the satin!!!! I'm going to be keeping a close eye on your projects too!!!! Thanks for the inspiration to move on this project!!!!
ReplyDeletei just love this....nice blog...
ReplyDeletebtw, i'm sheeda from Malaysia...
Wow, that's pretty!! It looks great! My dress didn't have any lace, so I can't cut it up! (or maybe I'm just looking for excuses cause I'm scared)
ReplyDeleteMaybe I will have to go out and get a thrift store dress!
What a fabulous idea!!
ReplyDeleteIn honor of this...I think I will cut my wedding dress up too!!
FUN!!!!!

What a wonderful shop, the prices are unbelievable for such cute things. I would love the large bloom halter apron. Thanks for a chance to win a great gift.
