It's here! I mentioned a little while back that I was taking a scissors to my wedding dress. Yes, I was completely serious! And since I'm having my 7 year wedding anniversary this month (and since June is such a common wedding month) I'm doing tutorials on things made from my dress all month long! It's "I DO" Re-done!

So you would think I would start with a picture to show you my wedding dress in all it's glory (on my wedding day). That would be a great idea, except we have most of our stuff in storage and I was married before I had this computer so I've got nothing to show you except this gorgeous fabric from a shot of the skirt.
So far I'm loving what's coming out of the appliques shown here (which I'm using some of today). Maybe by the end of this month I'll have dug out a picture of the whole dress, come to think of it I'm sure my mom has one at her house I could scan! Anyway, here is my first "I DO" Re-done tutorial! (Don't worry, if you don't want to cut up your own dress you can always find one at the thrift store!)

So this is the part from the dress. I cut a few before I decided what fit the best. Trim the fabric tight up around the applique and pin onto the headband you made from ribbon and a hair tie using the tutorial I mentioned above. It's super simple.
You can see where I pinned and ran my sewing machine to attach the ribbon to the hair tie. Then I pinned the applique onto the ribbon and sewed a few lines in a thread that matched my applique exactly! Then go back and wrap that ugly connection from rubber band to ribbon with some fabric glue and a piece of ribbon (more exact details in the
tutorial for the basic headband). Your all set!

It turned out beautiful! You are gutsy to cut up your dress, I don't think I could do it. I know one lady, used hers to make both her daughters baptism gowns. I thought that was a fun idea. Anyways, I love the headband. Very very pretty!

Still don't know that I could do it to my dress though. I've had my thoughts on keeping it intact for my daughter. She can cut it up. :)

I can see it now.... women all over the world cutting up their wedding dresses today, to make head bands. Husbands will wonder if their wives are mad at them. lol. I was just thinking the other day... why have I saved my dress? It takes way too much room, and my daughter will want her own. I think I just might craft todday with my dress!

I told my husband you were doing this to your dress. He thinks you are a genius! He thinks it is ridiculous to store my dress. My mom, on the other hand, almost had a heart attack when I told her! Since she is the one that paid for the dress, I am on the fence on whether or not to take the plunge and cut mine up...

I love it! I cut up my wedding dress to make a christening gown that both my boys were baptized in. There's pieces left though and my husband and I are celebrating our 15th in August...this headband would be perfect!
This makes more sense to me than having a dress sitting in a box or hanging in the back of a closet. I can imagine all kinds of lovely things from a gorgeous dress that can be enjoyed year after year.

Oh my goodness, I bought a wedding gown at a thrift shop a few weeks just so I could cut it up!!! I loved all the lace and beads, and I could just imagine so many lovely sachets and covered hangers from all the satin!!!! I'm going to be keeping a close eye on your projects too!!!!
